Winter Clusters and Food

Checked a number of hives today for food stores. I have generally found that the higher the cluster is in the box or boxes is usually indicative of how much food may be left. There are nuances to this but generally speaking this holds true. Get out there and check the hives by selecting a relatively warm day (40-50 deg). Just quickly pop the lid and observe. If you see wall to wall bees then you might wanna think about feeding.

There was still a decent amount of honey left in the frames but I threw on fondant just to be sure.
This cluster is starting to really get established in the upper deep box. I didn’t feed them this time because the box is still very heavy.
